Man I am so excited for what's to come! My name is Phillip Evans and I created my brand, Onsha, out of a love for streetwear, fitness apparel, and leisure wear. If you know me, then you know that you will always see me in a hoodie or tee, and sweatpants or athletic shorts. It is who I am and no matter how much my parents, tried to push me towards dressing less casual, I have always found joy in a great hoodie or a t-shirt with the right message.
For years I've spent my time learning graphic design. I've made countless logos for friends and family, and even to use on video games. I enjoy the process of taking an idea and giving it an identity through a logo or design. There's nothing like seeing somebody completely identify, and fall in love, with an idea that I've come up with.
When you merge my style of clothes with my love for graphic design, it makes sense how building a brand would be on my radar. The only thing that was holding me back was finding what to call the brand. I started with Pardoned Empire (which will still be incorporated 🙌🏿), but wanted something that was abstract and had deep meaning. I wanted to find something that would allow me to create a logo that had depth to it. After praying about it and doing research based on some of my other interests (anime, Japan, athletic brands like Puma and Nike) I came up with Onsha.
Onsha (pronounced On-Shuh) means pardon in Japanese (恩赦). Onsha also serves as an acronym "O.ne N.ailed S.on H.ealed. A.ll". We believe that Christ healed us, when we couldn't heal ourselves, so we aim to bring that healing to others. Since we have been given so much we aim to give back to those in need.
The logo resembles an O, though it is a broken chain link to symbolize being set free from our past and shame through the Son. The left side resembles an “E” standing for eternal, and the right side resembles a “3”, representing God as the eternal trinity. Looking closely at the center of the logo you’ll recognize a sideways “H” to represent God’s holiness and us being set apart from our old ways as the chain breaks.
There's so much depth in the name and logo, while remaining abstract and marketable in a plethora of ways. My aim is build this brand through a tribe of people who believe in elevating the world around them, people that are focused on bettering themselves and leaving a legacy that goes beyond their life.
If that's you, then leave a 🙌🏿 below and let me know where you're from.
Grace and peace,
Phill Evans
